A quick view of objects

Here is a quick intro to object oriented programming, the great new buzzword in modern programming. Its really quite simple, I will try to put this out in as many languages as I can, but here it is in python. The long short is that anything you can describe can be an object, for our example we're going to use people, fred and joe. Fred is a poor simple soul, nothing too special, joe however is a mailman. now a mailman should have all of the characteristics of a person, but he will need some extra stuff. However, it would be a waste of time to completely redefine everything they share as people just to create a mailman. so we make a object based off an object and voila. in the technical speak, we have classes and subclasses. pythons explicitness helps this a bit i think.without further ado, the code, enjoy

Linux was written from scratch to be a UNIX work-alike but it has no UNIX heritage. I has a terribly insightful post on the measures of men and deeds and might and glory but tis all for naught, one more wonderful ride on my mountain bike and it all goes slipping away. At least this has been a fantastic weekend. Even the 2 sidenotes couldnt dent that.sidenote 1, I am happily mtn biking along and there are 2 guys running towards me. No problem, i slow down move off the trail to let them by, tell them nice day, and what response do I get, one of them decides to huff under his breath, "Way out of control" sigh, there has to be 1. On the bright side, everybody else including the dogs were happy, a little guy came up for a scratch on the head as I was going uphill instead of nipping at my heels. A refreshing change.note 2, rushing, no i take that back, literally running thru supermarket because friend running late to put together her boyfriends birthday party. have one item so on the way to the checkout, ask the couple with about 10 or so items if we could jump in front because we have 1 item, the SO graciously lets us in as we have 1 item. the completely offends the alpha bullshit sensibility of the guy. not only does he huff and puff ranting to himself probably about what terrible people we are, he continues even while his SO rings out there groceries the next register down and manages to shout at us as we head out the door, still with over half a cart of groceries to go because he refuses to help, it wasnt that big a deal. Huh, apparently it was to him, it wasnt to us, wasnt to his girl friend, just to him. How do these polite poised attractive girls end up with deutchbags?? must feel the need to mother him. hopefully she drops his ass cause shes way too good for himwow im about to go all marvins room, apparently enough egotistical asses have stuck a cord...

In the spirit of all great bloggers I have followed in my way along the road, I will take a crack at being informative. Second of all facebook seems to hate giving back valid json. maybe its just me, but there are a few missing comma even if they are treated as arrays. Also, banging around the javascript test console was enlightening. Am I the only moron who expected it to actually respond to valid javascript? Can you please rename it the html test console instead. Go use spidermokey or d8, a js console should not require script tags, sorry.

In the mean time, it has never been so much fun setting up empty tags to let the js run wild. Yippy aye kiyay.

What else is new?? life is happening...fast. Jungle habitat and McLaughlin vinyards brought the pain, and I survived my first 6 days of riding in a row since May, June maybe.

Coaching is going well at Trifitness. My beginner group is awesome, Im going to be spoiled and think every group is like this. Haven't been over to the Trek Store much, too much else to do, but supposedly they have bike stuff there, or at least cool people to talk to.

Next is the Black Bear Rampage (register now!!), put on by the good folks down at Scott's Bicycle Center, and my awesome sponsor, Justice Madison Cycles. I think thats about it for now.

Not to much else to see, look at what I've been up to on the road (not nearly enough), with Exodus Road Racing, and go buy stuff from DPM Sports...now :)

Thats is bed time, I need my beauty sleep so I can keep riding my bike some more, oh wait, dont forget to go shout out Mike Patrick, always need more good vibrations. laters

Besides feeling the need to pad my post count by putting this in a separate post, this is everything that didnt go in post number 1.

This weekend was just a tad hectic. Get off work, drive to berkshires, race bicycle. I think this was officially my first road race of the season. Then roll into bed, back into car, off to Burke VT for 3 days of riding at Kingdom trails. Then finally roll home. Time to get down to business to finish off the summer.

I'm coaching at trifitness now, anyone want to do an xterra relay??? how come everyone wants to bike? maybe I should just start running and swimming again. I think thats all, if not I know how to make more posts

Not really... the problem with road rides is they give you way to much time to think. And I dont seem to have anything I want to think about.

I had a pipe dream that I could pull in some uci points from Tremblant up in Canuckistan, instead I was on my way to a decent ride before my 6th flat in 4 races got the better of that. Then at least I managed a small victory at the efta race sunday, i finished without flatting or any other mechanical. That was about the only good thing about the weekend. Now I can move on to step 2 of putting decent legs with decent luck.

As a minor aside, what happened efta??? really, i had gotten all pumped because I heard you had great races full of real mountain biking that require bike riding skills, instead, tremblant made sunday feel like a road race. at least it was the proper distance, not the 90 min uci drag race.

The other striking thought of the ride was here abouts marks 6 years of slowing down...hooray...really, I cant got any faster that I did when I was 18...wtf? It sucks getting old.

So the big news that I promised, running late as usual, this weekend=22 hours in the car, 5 hours of mtb racing, 1 flat tire, and a boatload of wondering how long I'm going to lard around as a has been before reality sinks in

Slacking off

So much for being a motivated blogger. hah...oh well. Started off last week with tour de tykes, quite possible the most miserable 90 min mtn bike race ever. After that it was chill til I got to roll down to the Cohutta, visit the guys at Justice Madison Cycles and Scotts bike, then get several flats and walked for a bit before I was rolling again. I finished in 6:20, but im still not sure how much of that was ride time. THen there was the wonderful 15 drive home. I don't know if Im tired or its just been really windy this week but Ive been really slow to and from work. OH well, play the game, pay the piper. Hopefully everything spins back up shortly

So my second week begins. My ride today was pleasant and uneventful, I just need to be careful now of how I thrash myself on the weekends, cause limping in with fried legs sucks. Not too much else to report. Racing starts Sunday, finally. Afterwards getting ready to go to TN, again, finally. Going to rock out with the guys from Scott's Bikes and Justice Madison Cycles at the Cohutta. Hell Yes!!

Day 4 of no car. Im surviving pretty well. It just makes it harder to mtb...I need to work on that, too bad the closest trails are closed to 4/30. Nothing like a 8 mile trip down pavement to ride my mtb. Too bad, its dialed and looking gorgeous. Thanks Justice Madison.

Car free Wonder

Today marks my second official day without a car of my own. Its funny what you get used to, having a car. now its almost like being back in high school except that no one wants to give you a ride.

This little twist of now gives me something to brag about besides the ramblings of an unpaid professional cyclist.

Now it really is any bike any weather, because if I go to work, I'm on my bike, I go to the post office, I'm on my bike, etc. I actually have a topic to expound upon. Don't get me wrong, there is not really a save the planet down with the auto's message here. One of my first thoughts this morning was, "wow, this sucks" now I know why there aren't many people who do this out here in suburbia, and I like riding bikes...a lot! Otherwise, today was a good start to my new car free existence. I made it to work close to on time, and wasn't told to leave because I smelled terrible, to the gray suv that yelled my name, i have no idea who you were so if you see this let me know, and to the driver of the silver sedan that nearly killed my right as I made it back to my driveway, please remember, when a cyclist has his hand out pointing left, he isn't waving you by, he's turning left. Its sort of trippy diving into the turn and realizing, the engines revving, not braking...this is going to suck...screech, honk, shake head.

Otherwise a beautiful day, can't say I've been that happy on the road since last summer. Stay tuned as more stories from my car-less life arrive

What is going on with all the idiots out there today?!?!?!?!? There was beautiful weather, no one else near by, but someone decided I needed my handful of near life experiences. yes 4 individual unique events. One I will give the benefit of the doubt because I nearly crashed on my own once I saw it (fine female behind running in form fitting yoga pants) The rest, are people really this stupid. I know the answer is yes but I'm trying to give humanity the benefit of the doubt here.

1 Coming down hill to intersection with green light. The main idiot, woman driver trying make a right, sees the car in front of me barely in enough time to stop for the red light. She is halfway into the intersection and the guy in front of me stops and swerves then comes to a nearly complete stop to admire aforementioned runner. I also swerve the car trying to turn right, then lock up the back wheel and throw it sideways to stop right about the bumper of the car in front of me. I was going to be annoyed but then I saw the runner.

2 Up in the middle of nowhere Easton quietly cruising along on my own, a maroon bio fuels truck decides he is too lazy to move out of his lane to pass me. This is about a lane and a half road to being with and I'm about a foot into the lane because of sand. He makes it by me without crossing the single yellow like and I get brushed and a little bounce on the way by. Green jobs might save the economy but they'll kill me.

3 Stupid soccer mom in a rush sees me cruising downhill on a falseflat about 30, basically the speedlimit, going the pace of traffic in the shoulder. She decides that I am a bicycle and can't be going that fast. She pulls out right into me...literally. I get my elbow/shoulder on the glass window of her outback/forrester thing and get a ride around into the other lane...from the shoulder. Luckily no one was coming the other way. Then she decides to give me grief for being in her way because she wants to make a left turn and I haven't been able to get back around her into my lane.

4 Some people just dont know hand signals. I give a left turn and a slowing sign going downhill, and the car behind me barely slows down enough to let me make the turn into my driveway without being runover. I get inside to the concerned faces of my mom and grandparents who were just pretty convinced they were going to have to call a bus because I looked like a goner as I went out of sight right before the driveway.

Thats all for now. I apparently really needed to vent because I needed an awesome ride, but apparently some people just can let me live. buggers

It will probably look like philly did this weekend. I never expected a legit 20 in of snow. It wasn't fair, not a ski hill in sight. So what to do but ride bikes. Who knew how well a cross bike could haul through snow over bb height. Good times, it ended my dream of being mad max, but I guess its a fair trade. Now to tick off the things I need to do before I go under the knife.

There will be cross racing. As proved saturday afternoon. I managed to have a sheet of ice down my back and over both gloves. At least I stayed warm during the warm up.
